Three days before the game, Joe Namath was tired of hearing how they will lose, and said, “We’re going to win the game. I guarantee it”.
Broadway Joe backed up his guarantee, with the Colts’ vaunted defense unable to contain the running or passing game of the Jets. Namath won the Super Bowl III MVP, completing eight passes to George Sauer Jr. for 133 yards.
The win made Namath the first quarterback to start and win a national championship game in college, a major professional league championship, and a Super Bowl.
