Throwing a loved one surprise party is a great way to show that special someone you care. While it might initially seem like you haven’t bothered to arrange anything for a special birthday or event, it will all be worth it when you’re at all the best surprise parties.
But what does it take to arrange and pull off a party without the guest of honor knowing anything about it, and what do you need to remember to do?

First things first, you need to book the date. Are you wanting to host the party on the special day itself? A few days either side of it? You need to check with others about the details for the date you have in mind and ensure that no one else make plans so you can go ahead and book your venue and suppliers without worrying about clashing plans.
Talk To Loved Ones
Once you have the date pinned down, you need to converse with loved ones to find out what type of event will work best, what party theme to choose, who to invite, and what they would like from a party in their honor. It can also be a good idea to run a few ideas past the person in question in a general way, i.e., did you see xxx party? What did you think? Or share social media videos and reels to get an idea of what they would like or absolutely hate.
Assemble A Team
You need to have a close team who can work together to help you pull this off. While crossing your fingers and hoping no one ruins the surprise is going to be something you are doing until you yell “surprise,” a party team you can trust to help you pull this off and keep shush will be instrumental in planning and executing the perfect surprise party.
Have a person in charge of being the guest of honor decoy who can keep your surprise right up until the event, and have someone in charge of sourcing party supplies, controlling the budget, arranging invitations, food, etc. Delegate tasks and desire everyone to know what they need to do and be able to do it.
Have Master Plan
You need to have a master plan of everything that needs to be taken care of, and who is doing it, and update it every time anything is arranged, finalized, and taken care of. This list needs to include everything from the guest list, including those who responded to invitations, food, drink, partyware, decorations, the theme, transport arrangements if required, music, entertainment, activities, and how you will reveal the surprise. Without a list, you are likely to overlook important aspects of the planning stage, and the last thing you want to do is find there may be something missing you cannot implement at the last minute. Make the plan, check it, update it, and know exactly where you are each step of the way.

Lastly, you must decide how and when you will reveal the surprise. Put a plan in place to get your special guest at the venue without everything being ruined. What will make them come with you? Where are you going to tell them you’re going first? You need to have a solid plan of how you are going to unveil the party and ensure everyone is aware of what time this will happen so you can have all attendees there for the big reveal.
Then, all you need to do is enjoy the fruits of your hard labor. Planning a surprise party isn’t easy, and there will be many times the surprise might be at risk. But the stress and secrecy will be worth showing that special person how much you think of them.
