Who Is Her Husband?
Shinsuke Nakamura is a five-time and longest-reigning IWGP Intercontinental Champion. Born in Mineyama, Kyoto on February 24, 1980, he is one of the most famous wrestlers coming from Japan.
When he was a child, his favorite wrestler was Jushin Liger. Born and raised in Kyoto, Japan, Nakamura was bullied as a child.
That determined the trajectory of his life and his destiny. He wanted to be able to protect himself. That woke up his fondness for wrestling shows on television. Nakamura began wrestling with New Japan Pro Wrestling and remained there for 14 years.
There, he became one of the most popular wrestlers and earned IWGP’s Heavyweight Champion at the age of 23. That made him the youngest champion ever.
He is vividly unrestrained and expressive, portraying a wildly random and erratic mixed martial arts enigma. But his wrestling style is not just a gimmick. He has also competed in mixed martial arts where he has a 3-1 record.
Nakamura launched his professional career following his graduation. His wrestling career started after he got an offer to join New Japan Pro Wrestling. He earned the Super Rookie title in his first year. His fighting style was unmatched by his opponents, becoming one of the most fearsome opponents in the promotion.
Nakamura is considered one of the Three Musketeers alongside Hiroshi Tanahashi and Katsuyori Shibata. They are praised for their speed, strength, and technique.
After winning everything he could in Japan, he decided to move to the US. He received an offer from WWE to join the developmental brand NXT in 2016 and soon progressed to SmackDown. During his time there, he became one of only two wrestlers to get the NXT Championship on more than one occasion. The other wrestler is Samoa Joe.
In 2019, he won the Intercontinental Championship for the first time at Extreme Rules, making him the second wrestler behind Chris Jericho to hold both WWE and IWGP International Championships. He won WWE United States Championship twice.
Because he is now in possession of the King of the Ring Crown, he dubbed himself King Nakamura.
Thanks to his popularity, he has appeared in other media as well. For example, he is featured in the Japanese music video Nigo for the song Happy by Pharrell Williams.
In May 2014, he published an autobiography, titled King of Strong Style. The English language version of the book was released in August 2018, and published by Viz Media.
Quick Bio
Now let’s get back to his wife Harumi Maekawa. She moved to the United States alongside his husband after he signed a deal with WWE. While they were in Japan, Harumi was not getting as much attention.
Born in February 1981, she is a native of Japan and belongs to the Asian ethnic group. She grew up in Japan, but there is not much information regarding her childhood, the names of her parents, and siblings, or any education.
Hopefully, in the future, she will start sharing details about her life more. That is one of the responsibilities of fame that comes with being the wife of a celebrity wrestler.
One thing is certain, Harumi Maekawa tries to keep her personal life private. She met her husband during the time at Aoyama Gakuin University in Shibuya. He was a member of the University’s wrestling squad at the time.
What you have to remember is that Harumi comes from Japan. Her ability to stay away from the public is something that is part of Japanese cultural norms. Unlike her American counterparts and their tendency to share as much as they can with the public, Japanese celebrities have a strict code. They take great care and try to separate professional life from private life.
And Nakamura is meticulous about it and tries to help his wife stay away from the media. She enjoys being away from the spotlight and lives happily and comfortably with her husband.
Their Love Story
Shinsuke Nakamura and his wife Harumi Maekawa have an amazing love story. As we said before, he tries to help her maintain her Japanese cultural norms as much as possible.
The two first met at the Aoyama Gakuin University in the city of Shibuya. It is a popular business and entertainment city in Tokyo prefecture.
At the time, he was a star on the university’s wrestling team and a two-time champion.
He became interested in her and the two started dating in 2000. The relationship developed, but it took them seven years to get married. Nakamura was recovering from a dislocated shoulder at the time, but they proceeded with the wedding ceremony. It took place on September 1st, 2007.
Nakamura and his wife organized a massive wedding party with more than 400 guests, including family, friends, and many Japanese wrestlers and celebrities.
But since the wedding, there is no info about them welcoming any children.
Is She Active On Social Media?
Of course not. That goes against her strict rules and codes steaming from her Japanese culture. Her husband, on the other hand, has to keep up a public profile.
Shinsuke has more than 1.6 million followers on his Instagram account. But he is a famous athlete, and as such, has to be active on social media.
Do They Have Any Children Together?
So far, there haven’t been any posts regarding any children. We can be sure that Shinsuke will publish it on social media, even though his wife might oppose it.
But he often posts pictures, even with her on social media. After all, that is part of celebrity life.
Net Worth
In most Asian cultures, men are those who work, and women stay at home and take care of the house. Harumi supports her husband in everything he does. When the time comes, and they have children, she will be responsible for taking care of them. And Nakamura is the one earning money for the family.
As of November 2022, Shinsuke Nakamura has a net worth of more than $3.5 million. He earns up to $400,000 for every event he participates in.
While he is popular in the US, he is still miles away from the highest-earning WWE wrestlers, like Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins.
