How did she do it?
So, how did Tamela Mann’s weight loss journey start? For Tamela, it is all about leading by example. Her daughter, Tiffany, says that her mother played a huge role. Her mother led by example. She views her mother as a great wife and mother, and an incredible performer. She looked to her to learn how to take care of her body.
In April last year, Tamela started her Weight Watchers weight loss program. And in September, she shared that she lost 40 pounds. In one Instagram post, she wrote “I am telling you all. WW is changing my life for the better”.
What is the WW weight loss program? The program sets you up with 24/7 access to a virtual coach and features a science-based system. You get personalized for age, height, weight, and sex program. It guides you on what to eat, cook, or choose a restaurant. There are no limits on food. The system works for your preferences.
Weight Watchers also helped her learn how to portion meals. She eats turkey sandwiches, but when has one, she cut it in half and makes two meals.
The gospel singer typically starts her day with eggs, toast, and bacon for breakfast. Sometimes, she eats the eggs without cheese to save some points. And speaking about her favorite ZeroPoint foods in the system, she says it is all about fruits. But she loves the wide variety of fruit on the ZeroPoint foods.
She keeps her snacks separate from her five kids and eight grandchildren. Because she has a house full of kids, she has snacks, but has a separate section in the pantry.
Tamela Mann praises her WW diet and program for her weight loss. But she knows that is only half of the equation. She doesn’t want to call the program a diet. In her words, “It is not a diet, it is a lifestyle change”.
She also tries to keep her body moving, even after major setbacks. For example, in July last year, she underwent knee replacement surgery. While she couldn’t hit the gym right after the surgery, she tried to keep moving.
In her Instagram post, she said, “During my recovery, physical activity was difficult for me, but I made it a priority to focus on my mental health and nutrition”. One month later, she could start physical activity again.
Tamela started walking without a cane. Writing, “The journey continues”, the gospel singer started walking as much as possible.
In September, he took her walks to the next level, with no cane in sight.
The gospel singer doesn’t want to slow down. She feels happy after losing weight. She has found both success and failure in weight loss. So, her decision to join Weight Watchers as a celebrity ambassador came easy.
She says, “I decide that this is the help that I needed because I couldn’t do it on my own”. In a way, she uses WW to encourage others but also finds comfort in her decision for weight loss. For Tamela, her family served as a starting point to focus more on her health and weight loss. The fact she could serve as an inspiration for others stood out to her.
Speaking about her WW journey, she said, “I was like, man, it would be great to be an encouragement to somebody else and not just to help myself get over this journey I’ve been struggling with my whole life”.
